World Happiness Report 2025
Africa continent launch | 20 March 2025 | University of Johannesburg | South Africa

Overview

The University of Johannesburg proudly hosted Africa's first-ever launch of the World Happiness Report 2025, highlighting the continent's emerging role in global discussions on happiness, well-being, and sustainable development. Experts emphasized Africa's cultural strength, particularly the philosophy of Ubuntu—characterized by community, caring, and generosity—as key to the continent's resilience. While challenges like unemployment, inequality, and political instability remain significant barriers to well-being, data revealed Africa’s remarkable performance in benevolence and positivity. The event aimed to drive policy reforms informed by new insights, reinforcing Africa's commitment to improving quality of life and contributing meaningfully to the global happiness and sustainable development agenda.
